The CSIRO Industry PhD Program (iPhD) is a four-year research training program, focusing on applied research that benefits industry by solving real-world challenges. It aims to produce the next generation of innovation leaders with the skills to work at the interface of research and industry in Australia.

Apply today for this exciting opportunity at the University of Adelaide.

Project overview

Air quality forecasting to assess risk of smoke exposure to quality of winegrapes.

This Project investigates the use of CSIRO's air quality forecasting system (AQFx) to predict smoke taint through analysis of historical grape and wine data sets. The expected outcome is early identification of vineyards/regions likely at risk or likely unaffected by smoke taint. The potential benefit is essential and timely information for supply chain management and quality assurance for wine producers, grape growers, and their customers.

The successful candidate will develop the research objectives in collaboration with an experienced supervisory panel, comprised of researchers at the University of Adelaide, the Australian Wine Research Institute, and Treasury Wine Estates Vintners. Along with a $47,000 p.a. scholarship for four years, the student will undertake a 60-day internship with the industry collaborators, and receive a structured professional development and training package.
