The Dr Richard Oertel Scholarship has been established by Bronwyn Ellis, also a graduate of this university, in memory of her late husband Dr Richard Oertel who graduated in Science from the University of Adelaide in 1970, then with First Class Honours in Mathematics in 1971. He subsequently completed a PhD in Applied Mathematics, which was conferred in 1976. He later completed a Diploma in Computing Science (1979). Dr Oertel had a passion for mathematics and science. The scholarship supports two undergraduate students in financial need undertaking study in science, mathematical sciences or mathematical and computer sciences programs at the University of Adelaide.
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:
- Be commencing a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Advanced), Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences, Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Advanced) or Bachelor of Mathematical & Computer Sciences
- Be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- Be enrolled on a part time or full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place
- Demonstrate you are in financial need*
* Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.
**Evidence of Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) application or approval does not demonstrate financial need.
Selection of the successful candidates will be made according to:
- Academic merit (ATAR)
- Financial need
- Answers to questions on the application form
