The Order of Australia Association Foundation Ltd has created this scholarship to support a student undertaking the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery who has demonstrated high academic achievement and shows potential to become an outstanding and prominent Australian.

The Foundation will also offer the Scholarship recipient the opportunity of an ongoing mentor relationship with a member of The Order of Australia who is eminent in the awardee’s chosen field of study. The purpose of the Scholarship is to assist such promising students who might otherwise have considerable financial difficulty in proceeding with their studies and thus not achieve their potential for the future benefit of Australia.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:

  • Be undertaking second or third year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
  • Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place
  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be aged in your twenties but, in exceptional circumstances, some may be considered up to early 30s
  • Have demonstrated high academic achievement in their tertiary studies
  • Have demonstrated qualities of leadership, initiative and involvement in community affairs
  • Demonstrate your need for financial assistance to benefit the completion of your program of study*

* Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Academic merit
  • Need for financial assistance to benefit the completion of their studies
  • Past and current involvement in community affairs
  • Potential as a future leader in your field of study and in community involvement
  • Benefit to the Australian community in future years through the Scholarship award and your specialist knowledge
  • The ability to gain significantly from the guidance of a Mentor from The Order of Australia who is eminent in your chosen field of study

Important Information:

  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students receiving other University of Adelaide Scholarships may not apply for this Scholarship
