The University will offer one scholarship to a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic merit as shown by the student’s ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), with University Equity Scheme adjustment factors included where applicable, who is enrolling in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) program at the University of Adelaide in 2024, where they:

  • are Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
  • qualify for their year 12 certificate at an Australian School in 2022 or 2023 and have obtained an outstanding ATAR score (including the Equity Scheme adjustment factors only, where this is applicable)
  • have applied through SATAC for admission to a Commonwealth Supported Place in an undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) program at the University of Adelaide in 2024 and are eligible to receive an offer of a place in that program
  • are commencing post secondary studies for the first time in 2024.

Scholarship selection will also have regard to the student’s contribution to their school and to the wider community, and demonstrated commitment to undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical).

This Scholarship provides an allowance of $6,000 per annum to assist with education/living costs and covers the student’s tuition fee contribution for the duration of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) program up to a maximum period of four years, subject to students taking up the offer of a place at the University, confirmation of full time enrolment and maintaining satisfactory academic progress in their studies.

The University will contact all eligible students in mid January 2024 and invite them to apply and present supporting documentation. Short listed candidates may be required to attend an interview.

The name of the Andy Thomas Scholarship recipient will be published and the recipient will be expected to participate in University of Adelaide public events and publicity material.

Applicants are encouraged to provide supporting documentation demonstrating academic achievement, extra curricular activities, involvement in community and leadership activities with their application (e.g. copies of certificates or awards, media articles, letters of thanks etc).
