These Scholarships have been established by the University of Adelaide in conjunction with the Department for Education.  Funding for these scholarships has been provided by a bequest to the University from Esther Burns, a  well respected teacher who taught at Port Augusta High School in 1968 and then Quorn Area School from 1970 until her retirement in 1976, with matching funds from the Department for Education.

The scholarships will assist final-year students who are qualified to teach Science or Maths and who intend to complete a country teaching practicum at a South Australian Public Primary or High School.

The scholarships are open to students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia and undertaking the final year of a Bachelor of Teaching or a Master of Teaching at the University of Adelaide.

Students must be a Commonwealth Supported student and undertaking their study on a full or part time basis.

Up to 6 scholarships will be available each year.  The maximum duration of the scholarships is one semester.

Selection for this scholarship will be made according to academic merit which will be determined according to students’ cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for the preceding years.
