The Esther Burns/Department of Education Country Teaching Scholarships have been established by the University of Adelaide in conjunction with the Department for Education.  Funding for up to six scholarships has been provided by a bequest to the University from Esther Burns, a well respected teacher who taught at Port Augusta High School in 1968 and then Quorn Area School from 1970 until her retirement in 1976, with matching funds from the Department for Education.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:

  • Be undertaking the final year of a Bachelor of Teaching or a Master of Teaching
  • Be qualified to teach Science or Maths
  • Be undertaking a country teaching practicum at a South Australian Public Primary or High School
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
  • Be enrolled on a part time or full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Academic merit (GPA)
  • Answers to questions on the application form

Important Information:

  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students receiving other University of Adelaide Scholarships may apply for this Scholarship
