The Vera May Swift Scholarship was established by a gift from Vera May Swift to support undergraduate students studying English at the University of Adelaide.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a first year student intending to major in English in subsequent years of study
  • Be enrolled in the first year of one of the following programs (or equivalent)
    • Bachelor of Arts
    • Bachelor of Arts (Advanced)
    • Bachelor of Arts with Bachelor of Economics
    • Bachelor of Arts with Bachelor of Music
    • Bachelor of Arts with Bachelor of Science
    • Bachelor of Creative Arts
    • Bachelor of International Relations with Bachelor of Arts
    • Bachelor of Media with Bachelor of Arts
    • Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Arts or
    • Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) with Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences
  • Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Academic merit (GPA from semester 1)
  • Answers to questions on the application form

Important Information:

  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students receiving other University of Adelaide Scholarships may apply for this Scholarship
