The Simonis Family Scholarship for Foreign Language Studies has been established by Professor Jessica Gallagher to support students undertaking a Bachelor of Languages or Bachelor of Arts with a language major at the University of Adelaide. 

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:

  • Be commencing a Bachelor of Languages or Bachelor of Arts with a language major (beginner or intermediate level)
  • Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place
  • Have attended a public secondary school

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Academic merit (ATAR)
  • Answers to questions on the application form

Important Information:

  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
  • An additional payment of $2,000 will be made if the scholarship recipient participates in a global mobility program
  • The scholarship recipient will be encouraged to be part of the Peer Assist Study Session and, in second and subsequent years of study, to provide mentorship to help other students succeed
  • The scholarship is not intended for students undertaking a language of study of which they are a native speaker
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students receiving other University of Adelaide Scholarships may not apply for this Scholarship
