The Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) is funded by the Commonwealth Government and is available to school leavers from an inner-regional, outer-regional or remote area who are relocating to study at a higher education institution and their home is more than 90 minutes from their education provider.
The payment assists regional and remote school leavers with the increased costs associated with relocating to a new city to undertake tertiary study and provides support for the first year of study. The payment will contribute towards living and educational expenses.
The TAP supports students accessing tertiary study in the year immediately following their completion of Year 12 (or equivalent), who are enrolled full time in an undergraduate program of study at the University of Adelaide.
From January 2023, students relocating from an inner-regional area may be eligible for a $3,000 lump sum payment.
Students relocating from outer-regional or remote areas for study may be eligible for $5,000, paid in 2 instalments.
To be eligible students must:
- be an Australian resident meeting the Australian Residency rules under section 7 of the Social Security Act 1991
- be from an inner-regional, outer-regional, remote or very remote area (go to Student Regional Area Search tool to check your area)
- be relocating to study at The University of Adelaide (The University campus must be at least 90 minutes by public transport from your home)
- be accessing tertiary study in the year immediately following your completion of Year 12 or equivalent
- be commencing an undergraduate program of study at the University of Adelaide in semester 1, 2023 - must be studying face to face, for at least part of the degree
- be undertaking full time study
- demonstrate financial hardship - your parent/guardian(s) must have a combined annual income of less than $250,000 per annum.
Students must apply for the TAP through Services Australia. Applications for 2023 will open January 1, 2023.
For more information on the TAP, please visit the Services Australia website.
