The University of Adelaide Research Scholarship on water/acoustic engineering is established by the Division of Research and Innovation to support a full-time PhD student who is commencing research in water or acoustic engineering.

This PhD project is linked with an ARC DECRA project - Illuminating Dark Fibres for Smart Water Asset Monitoring.

This PhD project builds on the recent rapid development of smart water networks and the emerging distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) technology. The aims of the project are to 1) apply signal processing methods, data analytics and machine learning tools for leak detection in water networks, 2) to understand the physics of wave propagation in underground water networks, 3) and to use IoT acoustic/pressure loggers and optical fibre sensing techniques for laboratory investigation and field application.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia/international students who are acceptable as candidates for a PhD degree at the University of Adelaide.

Stipend:

The scholarship will be for 3.5 years and has a stipend of $32,500 (indexed annually) per annum. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.  Details of any terms and/or benefits can be found in the Conditions of Award.
