About the scholarship

The Australian Solar Thermal Research Institute (ASTRI) heliostat scholarship Is funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to support a full time PhD who is undertaking research in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics.


Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia/international students/onshore international students who are acceptable as candidates for a PhD/Master by Research degree at the University of Adelaide.

Eligible candidates must:

  • Have completed a relevant Bachelor degree with First Class Honours, or a Masters degree that contains a significant (and relevant) research component with equivalent academic performance.  Students who hold a degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering will be considered favourably.
  • Be interested in experimental and computational fluid dynamics, flat plate aerodynamics for heliostat wind load analysis and boundary layer turbulence characterisation in wind tunnel and field experiments.

Stipend The value of this supplementary scholarship scholarship will $10,000 per annum and is conditional on a student successfully securing a Research Training Program Scholarship (RTPS),  valued at $28,597 per annum. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.  Details of any terms and/or benefits can be found in the Conditions of Award/Rules.
