Background

JDRF Australia continues to support excellence in research and clinical care in the field of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) through advancing the quality and impact of T1D research in Australia.

JDRF Australia is inviting applications for PhD Top-up Scholarship 2022. The Scholarship is designed to support and encourage PhD students pursuing research in the field of T1D in line with JDRF’s mission – to treat, prevent and cure T1D.

The Scholarship will provide successful candidates with additional funding, on top of their PhD stipend, full-time or pro-rated part-time, contingent to satisfactory progress.

Funding

Up to $6,000 per year for a maximum of 3 years

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Recipients of either a Research Training Program Stipend (formerly Australia Postgraduate Award), NHMRC Postgraduate Award or a University-funded PhD scholarship
    • Not in receipt of any other PhD top-up funding
    • Pursuing research relevant to T1D  
    • Australian citizens or permanent residents currently residing in Australia

Application

Applications must be submitted by 5pm AEST Monday 2 May 2022 using the application form and structured in the following in order:

  1. Details Summary – Please complete all fields
  2. Applicant Summary – Please complete all fields in the form and adhere to the word limits for each question.
    • Letters of Recommendation – In addition to the above, two letters of recommendation must be sent by referees by the deadline date, 2 May 2022. Letters of recommendation must be e-mailed directly to travelgrants@jdrf.org.au by the referee to maintain confidentiality.
    • It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that these letters are sent on time. Applications without letter of recommendations will not be considered.
  3. Letter confirming offer of a PhD Scholarship – Include a letter confirming your offer of a Research Training Program Stipend, NHMRC Postgraduate Award or a University-funded PhD scholarship. This should be pasted into the document.
  4. Curriculum Vitae – maximum 4 page limit. Please limit all information provided to that requested within the application form.
  5. Academic transcript – Please provide a certified copy of your academic transcript. This should be inserted into the document.
  • Please note that acceptable persons who may certify a document are listed in Schedule 2 of the ‘Statutory Declarations Regulations 2018’ located here.
  • Certification of both the Applicant and their Institution’s Research Administration Office.
    • Electronic signatures are acceptable.

Applications are to be submitted by your Institution’s Research Administration Office as one document in PDF format with the naming convention of: “Surname_Firstname_PhD Top up.pdf” to travelgrants@jdrf.org.au

Reporting

If successful, applicants will be required to complete an annual progress report that must be submitted to travelgrants@jdrf.org.au before annual payments can be made.
