The Playford Trust, is thrilled to partner with Codan to offer PhD scholarships in the following technologies:

  • application of machine learning to inertial navigation
  • RF digital signal processing for wireless ranging and localisation
  • application of computer vision technologies for simultaneous location and tracking.

Information about this research is available from the relevant faculty/college at each of the three South Australian universities – The University of Adelaide, Flinders University and the University of South Australia.

The scholarships are valued at $30,000 and will be paid at the rate of $10,000 per annum for three years.

Codan has formed a Research & Technology group to focus on core and emerging technologies related to the field of Situational Awareness. Initial focus for this group will be the development of dissimilar technologies to support GPS-denied ranging, location, tracking and navigation.

The research is likely to be conducted at Codan’s facility at Mawson Lakes, and Codan will consider making provision for equipment used in this research.

The scholarships are intended to supplement an existing Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend Scholarship (RTPS) or similar institutional PhD stipend scholarship.

The Trust will accept an application for an extension of time, subject to satisfactory progress and appropriate support from the university and the PhD supervisor. Approval of such an extension is not automatic.
