The Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) and the Veitch Chartered Accountants are partnering to create an internship opportunity for a University of Adelaide PhD student, to contribute to the following project.

Role Overview:

This internship offers a unique opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to gain hands-on experience in accounting research within a professional environment. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced team to conduct research on various accounting standards, tax regulations, and business advisory practices. This role is ideal for someone with prior experience in an accounting firm who is looking to deepen their knowledge and contribute to meaningful projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research on current accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Analyse financial data and assist in the preparation of reports for internal and client use.
  • Support the team in developing new methodologies for accounting and taxation practices.
  • Assist in drafting research papers and presentations for both internal and client-facing purposes.
  • Collaborate with senior accountants to identify areas for improvement in current practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on accounting and business strategies.

 

Requirements:

Previous Experience: Must have prior experience working in an accounting firm.

Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Skills: Strong analytical skills, proficiency in accounting software, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Attention to Detail: Ability to work accurately and efficiently, especially when dealing with complex financial data.

Team Player: Willingness to collaborate and contribute to team efforts while also being able to work independently.

The selected applicant, their supervisor, and Veitch Chartered Accountants will have the opportunity to discuss the nature of research and development activities and working arrangements post-selection.

 

Eligibility:  The PhD student must be:  

  • within the first 18 months of their candidature,  
  • willing to undertake the research internship for a minimum duration of 60 FTE business days,  
  • making satisfactory progress, and  
  • undertaking research in an area aligned with the proposed research internship project.

Additionally, the student should be based in Adelaide, to collaborate with staff at Veitch Chartered Accountants' offices at 231 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide.
