The Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) and Kornar Winmil Yunti (KWY) are partnering to create an internship opportunity for University of Adelaide PhD students, to contribute to the following projects.

 

About Kornar Winmil Yunti 

Kornar Winmil Yunti (KWY) is a leading Aboriginal organisation based in South Australia, committed to delivering culturally responsive services that support Aboriginal families and communities. KWY operates across a range of sectors including child protection, family violence, education, and community development. The organisation is grounded in cultural integrity, community leadership, and evidence-informed practice.

 

Project details

The research intern will work within the Research and Innovation Directorate and contribute to projects aligned with KWY’s strategic priorities. This may include:

  • Supporting the design and implementation of community-led research projects.
  • Conducting literature reviews and environmental scans.
  • Assisting with data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Engaging with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders to ensure culturally safe research practices.
  • Contributing to the development of research outputs such as reports, presentations, and policy briefs.

 

Expected Research Outcomes: 

  • Enhanced understanding of Aboriginal-led research methodologies.
  • Practical experience in community-based research and ethical engagement.
  • Development of skills in qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis.
  • Exposure to policy and program development in an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
  • Contribution to real-world projects with measurable community impact.

Eligibility:  The PhD student must be:  

  • within the first 18 months of their candidature,  
  • willing to undertake the research internship for a minimum duration of 60 FTE business days,  
  • making satisfactory progress, and  
  • undertaking research in an area aligned with the proposed research internship project

  • Cover Letter (of not more than 2 pages) outlining your interest in the internship and describing how your research area aligns with the proposed field of research internship.  

Please note that the successful candidate will need to hold a current Police Clearance and Working with Children Clearance. KWY can assist with relevant applications, where needed.

 

Please note that applications will be considered on a rolling basis and the advertisement may be closed earlier if a suitable applicant is shortlisted for a particular project prior to the listed closing date. Furthermore, if shortlisted, a meeting is likely to be organised between the student, their supervisor and the organisation's focal contact person within a week of shortlisting. Students may consider discussing their internship plans with their Principal Supervisor in anticipation of that.
