The MF & MH Joyner Scholarships (the scholarships) are funded by a bequest from the late Millie Hay Joyner of South Australia and are available to full-time Doctor of Philosophy students from the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia and Flinders University, in the areas of Law, Medicine and Sciences. Please refer below for inclusions and exclusions of sub-areas within Medicine and Sciences. The Scholarships are being offered to promote research in Australia. However, in special circumstances, a limited period of supervised study overseas will be considered.
Eligibility: In addition to the above, applicants should hold, or expect to hold, a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. The Scholarships will only be awarded to students commencing a Doctor of Philosophy, on a full-time basis, in Semester 1, 2024.
Selection: The selection process will be competitive and based on the academic merit and research potential of each applicant.
Amount: For the disciplines of Law and Sciences, the annual amount will be 10% above the base rate for Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (RTPS). For the discipline of Medicine, the annual amount will be 10% above the rate for the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Medical Postgraduate Research Scholarship (or equivalent award).
Period: Tenure of the scholarship, up to a maximum of three years, is dependent on the student’s satisfactory academic progress.
How to apply: Applications will be processed as part of the Domestic Major Round (Intake Semester 1, 2024). When open, applications must be submitted using the Online Application Form available at: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduate-research/future-students/how-to-apply
Applicants for Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (RTPS) will be automatically considered and eligible applications will be forwarded to the Joyner Scholarships selection committee for consideration.
Applications must be lodged with the university offering the degree in which the applicant intends to enrol.
