The Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) and Credit Union Foundation of Australia (Cufa) are partnering to create an exciting internship opportunity for a PhD student in the field of Development Studies.

Cufa is an international NGO committed to economic empowerment in the Asia-Pacific region. The organisation is currently working on a research project(s) related to an end of project evaluation of our 3-year Cambodia Livelihoods investment to inform the next phase.

This research industry internship has been established by Cufa to provide a PhD student an opportunity to work alongside industry leaders on this project. The successful candidates will undertake a minimum of 60 FTE business days of research and development with the company. The research project will involve interstate (4-5 business days in Sydney) and overseas travel (2 weeks in Cambodia in March with key organisational staff). Travel and accommodation expenses will be fully covered by Cufa, and the AGRS will support eligible students with a research internship scholarship (for 60 business days at the standard RTP rate).

About the project
The nature of the research and development activities for the research internship may include:

  • Drawing on research literature and relevant theoretical frameworks
  • Undertaking fieldwork
  • Meaningful assistance in research and policy development with a focus on identifying strengths and lessons learned from the outgoing project cycle
  • Preparing an evaluation report that aims to support the organisation in formulating the next phase of support to rural livelihoods in Cambodia

Expected research outcomes for students may include:

  • Contributing to life changing research that improves the livelihoods of hundreds of rural Cambodians each year
  • Assisting the organisation in conducting an end of cycle evaluation to inform the next three-year investment phase
  • Gaining professional industry experiences
  • Applying research skills to critically review and assess implementation progress against annual development plans, and inform the next program cycle
  • Opportunity to strengthen professional networks

The selected applicant, their supervisor, and Cufa’s focal contact person will have the opportunity to discuss the nature of research and development activities and working arrangements post-selection.
An expected commencement date is February 2023.
