The Charles and Frank Fenner Research Scholarship in Geographical and Environmental Studies is funded from a bequest from Emeritus Professor Frank Fenner, who graduated in medicine at the University of Adelaide in 1983. Emeritus Professor Frank Fenner CMG MBE AC is credited with overseeing the eradication of smallpox and controlling Australia’s rabbit plague through the introduction of myxomatosis. Professor Frank Fenner’s father, Charles Fenner, was also associated with the University, being integral in establishing geography studies at the University.

The scholarship supports a full-time PhD or MPhil student with research costs including but not limited to travel, equipment, data, or data collection.

Eligibility:

To hold the award, applicants must be:

  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, Permanent Humanitarian visa holder, or international student;
  • enrolled full-time in a Higher Degree by Research program at the University of Adelaide in the Department of Geography, Environment and Population.

Value and Tenure:

The award will be a once-off grant of up to $7,500. Grants are made on the condition that they are used solely for the purpose stated in the application.
