Standing up for the world.

Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting outstanding all-round students at the University of Oxford.

Subject to limited restrictions, Rhodes Scholars may read for any full-time postgraduate degree at the University of Oxford. The basic tenure of the Scholarship is two years.

Rhodes seeks young women and men of outstanding intellect, character, leadership and commitment to service.  The Rhodes Scholarships support students who demonstrate a strong propensity to emerge as 'leaders for the world's future'.

The Selection Committees are looking for the following:

  • academic excellence (e.g. First Class Honours with GPA minimum of 6.75). Further details on the academic requirements can be found on the Rhodes website
  • energy to use your talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved)
  • truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in your fellow human beings

A Rhodes Scholarship covers all University and College fees, a personal stipend and economy class airfare to Oxford and back to the student’s home country.

University of Adelaide students who wish to informally discuss their potential application are welcome to speak to Professor John Williams, Rhodes Co-State Secretary for South Australia or contact Ms Rosie Wilkes, Administrator, Rhodes Scholarships for South Australia.
