In 1962, Sir Tom Elder Barr Smith donated funds to the University for the purpose of establishing a fund for study and research into the causes, prevention, treatment and relief of cancer. The Scholarship was established in memory of his wife, the late Nancy Leland Barr Smith.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia, New Zealand Citizens or international students who are acceptable as candidates for a PhD degree at the University of Adelaide.

Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program of study at the University of Adelaide in the area of the causes, prevention, treatment and relief of cancer.

 

Stipend:

The scholarship will be for up to 3.5 years and has a stipend of $18,000 per annum to be used to assist with living expenses, purchase of equipment, consumables, conference, or travel required for their research project. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval. It is subject to the standard Conditions of Award, which can be found here.
