The George Murray Travel Scholarship is available exclusively to University of Adelaide graduates. For over 40 years, this prestigious award has assisted graduates to undertake postgraduate study at some of the best educational institutions outside of Australia.  

Eligibility:  

To be eligible to apply, a candidate must:

• be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia;
• be a graduate of the University of Adelaide;
• have completed and been awarded at least one of the following qualifications by the University of Adelaide:
  • First Class Honours Degree or equivalent qualification; or
  • MBBS followed by at least one year of clinical experience or BDS followed by at least one year of postgraduate study; or
  • Research Masters
• be eligible to enrol in a full-time Higher Degree by Research program at the selected overseas institution.

Candidates should, in advance, consult the Head of the Department at the overseas institution concerned, and should where appropriate, apply for admission to the degree program of their choice.

Benefits & Tenure:  

This scholarship provides a stipend living allowance of up to AUD$20,000 per annum and contribution towards tuition fees of up to AUD$25,000 per annum for a duration up to 3.5 years.

Reporting Requirements:  

At any time, the scholar must inform the AGRS should they obtain any other awards or assistance (whether it be a scholarship, fellowship, salary, living allowance, fee waiver, teaching assistantship or travel grant) towards the same program of study. The candidate will normal be required to retain such other award. After considering all the circumstances, the Committee will decide what adjustment, if any, shall be made in the annual value of the George Murray Travel Scholarship. Any such adjustment shall be to the overall advantage of the scholar (item 21 of rules).

The awardee must submit quarterly progress reports, a final report and a copy of the degree parchment indicating conferral date to the AGRS.
